Jeff Malins, Assistant Professor, Psychology, GSU Neural activation variability as an index of plasticity and learning An emerging field of cognitive neuroscience contends that quantifying intra-individual variation in brain activity across trials can give important insights into brain dynamics. In this talk, I will present several studies employing task-fMRI to evaluate the relationship between trial-by-trial neural activation variability and reading development in children. After discussing some recent results, I will focus on methodological considerations and future directions for this line of work.
