For the 2026 Brain Awareness Week cycle, the Center for Translational Research in Neuroimaging and Data Science (TReNDS) and the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) will present “The Science of Emotion: Understanding How the Brain Feels” at the Atlanta Science Festival Exploration Expo. This interactive exhibit invites visitors of all ages to discover how emotion, physiology, and brain activity are deeply connected.
Participants will rotate through hands-on stations, including measuring physiological arousal with galvanic skin response sensors, viewing real-time brainwave activity with portable EEG, exploring fear responses through a safe “Spider in a Box” demonstration, and decoding facial expressions inspired by classic emotion research. Together, these activities make invisible brain processes visible and personally meaningful.
Grant support will fund equipment, materials, and educational resources to create an immersive, multisensory experience. The event will also train undergraduate and graduate volunteers to communicate neuroscience with empathy, clarity, and cultural awareness.
