November 13, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Event Navigation
Join us, Friday, Friday, November 13, 2020, at 3 p.m. EST, for an exciting virtual talk by Maria Misiura entitled “Decoding the Disparity: A discussion of race, connectivity, & white matter hyperintensities in Alzheimer’s Disease” as part of “News from the Frontline: Trainee-focused talk series”
Racial disparities exist within Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) such that African Americans are twice as likely as N
on-Hispanic Whites to develop the disease in their lifetime. Evidence suggests that African Americans do indeed represent a unique phenotype of Alzheimer’s disease, for which prevalence of risk factors in this population does not fully explain. In this presentation I will cover my dissertation work which includes an analysis of functional connectivity in the default mode network & in putamen networks, and the role of race in the relationship between connectivity and AD biomarkers. I will also include a discussion of regional hyperintensities and race.
Maria is a graduate student in the department of Psychology at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She works jointly in Imaging Genetics & Informatics Lab from Georgia State University and Hu Biomarker Lab from Emory University.
