Mohammad Sendi
Postdoctoral Researcher
Mclean Hospital & Harvard University
Mohammad S. E. Sendi is currently an NIMH T32 postdoctoral fellow at Mclean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He received his Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University and his Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2022. At the interface between neuroscience and machine learning, his research focuses on applying machine learning techniques to elucidate the underlying mechanism of deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy in different regions of the brain. He investigates how DBS changes brain signals in neurological disorders like epilepsy, depression, and memory dysfunction. He also developed an active learning framework to sample the stimulation parameters for closed-loop neuromodulation optimally. He also developed multiple frameworks to analyze dynamic functional network connectivity estimated from resting-state fMRI and identified new biomarkers in depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s. Mohammad S.E. Sendi has published more than 50 peer-review journals, conferences, and abstracts which is a remarkable accomplishment for a graduate student. He received the 2019 Bobby Jones Biomedical Engineering Award for exceptional research accomplishments in translational neuroscience identified by Emory University’s faculty. He also received the 2021 Blended and Online Learning Design Graduate Fellowship by Georgia Tech Provost, 2019 Professional Development Support Funds by Emory University, the 2021 Global Young Scientist Summit Participant Award by National Research Foundation Singapore, 2021 International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine travel fellowship, 2021 ISMRM Educational Stipend Award, 2021 ISMRM: magna cum laude, and 2021 AAIC Travel Fellowship, 2021 Bio-Medical Sponsored FNNR, 2022 J. Norman and Rosalyn Wells Fellowship Award, and 2022 ECE Graduate Research Assistant Excellence Awards by Georgia Tech.
